Hello friends,
Welcome to the first post of bits & (art) pieces!
Thank you to those of you who subscribed recently and thank you if you’ve been a long-time subscriber.
There’s so much I want to tell you and so much that has happened since the last time I wrote a newsletter (which was in April 2020 yikes!) that I don’t even know where to start…So I decided to just keep it simple and short in this first letter otherwise I’d never finish it.
I’ll just share with you a very important step I’m taking that will hopefully help with my work/life balance (which was not great to start with but has gotten even worse since having a child. How do y’all do it?!):
I’m getting a studio space!!!
An actual space that’s not a tiny desk in my living room! A place I will commute too. A place that has a door I can close at the end of the day! Can you believe it?
My main issue and the main reason for getting a studio was the lack of space I had in my flat. I have worked from home ever since I became a freelancer and that has been fine for me. I’m a homebody and I was lucky to have the spare room to work from at first. Well not anymore…
Now my desk is always a mess because there’s no space to store things. I’m in the living room so it’s hard for the baby to understand that I’m working and can’t give her my attention. Trying to find space to draw traditionally or to put a camera and film seems impossible.
I’m really excited about this. I want to have a space dedicated to making traditional art and I may even have space to start filming videos again! Now I just need to find the time for everything I want to do…
I’ll let you know how that goes. Finding time to do something other than working or caring for the baby has been the biggest challenge for me (honestly, how do y’all do it?!). So much so that even finding the time to actually move to the new space has been difficult…
Something I liked recently and maybe you will to
Are you addicted to your phone? Especially social media? I am!
Last month I decided to erase all social media from my life for a week. And I’m embarassed to say it was the most productive I’d been in a very long time.
I worked faster and more focused than usual. And I read a LOT.
I’m thinking I could do it every month maybe. It really helped me be more mindful of how much I reach for my phone.
Wanna try it?
Yay Elsa, this is very exciting news regarding the new studio. I am also just setting up a spare bed room studio and film the process. Probably a stretch but are you going to do a studio tour sometime? Also what you said about phones rings very true. I wrote a thesis over 10 years ago on cell phone addiction (so basically before they were everywhere) and have recently been mostly off social media, especially Instagram and same as you my productivity and creativity has increased and my negative self talk has almost vanished. So nice to connect with you again through your newsletter <3
